Current Projects

Development and Testing of a Postpartum Risk Identification and Support Tool

This research takes a patient-centered design approach to developing a tool for birthgiving people to use after delivery.

This tool will allow for early risk identification and delivery of social support and appropriate resources to minimize the chance of adverse maternal health outcomes in the early postpartum period. This is supported in part by the S&R Foundation’s Kuno Award for Applied Science for Social Good.

Identifying Peripartum Depression from Natural Language

This research examines how the topics (the people and events mentioned) and sentiment (the positive, negative, and neutral affect) expressed in routine journal entries correspond to diagnostic measures of depression and treatment-seeking in a peripartum clinical population.

This work has implications for depression phenotyping and applications to clinical care for depression among birthgiving people.
